This program aims to improve the coping behaviors of children in partner residential care facilities, achieved through the conduct of socialization activities, counseling, therapy and environmental education.
A. Home Visitation
A home visitation together with clients is conducted to better assess the children’s needs and to be able to identify appropriate interventions for the child and the family.
B. Psycho-social Activities
Life skills sessions are conducted for children with varied topics including Thinking and Self Awareness, Communication, Problem Solving, Decision-making, Critical Thinking, Negotiation, Interpersonal and Independent living skills.
To help improve the daily living skills of children, cooking activities are also implemented for the children and staff of residential care facilities. There are also counseling/talking sessions with topics including the “most important things in one’s life” and “how to handle relationships with peers, classmates, and friends”.
Art activity is also an integral component of this program for it allows the children to express themselves thru various forms of art. The art activities mainly involve recycling of junk and other discarded items into useful materials such as pen holders and house decoration that can be used in the facilities.
Developing a sound mind and body is also important for the children in residential care facilities. It is for this reason that sport activities are organized participated by residents from partner facilities. From time to time, exposure/field trips are also conducted.
To maximize the benefit of group interaction, group dynamics activities are also done with the children.
C. Environmental Education
This component of the project aims to inculcate among the children the value of being responsible towards the protection and preservation of the environment. Hence, Clean and Green activities, or those sessions were children were made aware on the importance of their environment, are implemented.
There are also learning sessions conducted focusing on the story of Skogsmulle and his friends. Skogsmulle and his friends are popular Swedish children’s storybook characters whose stories have provided an inspirational, holistic and child-centered approach to teaching the value of environmental protection. In addition, tree planting activities are also organized.
