On 15 November, 2016, 9 (2 boys and 7 girls) young aspiring hairstylists attended one of the biggest hair and make-up event in the Philippines – Hair Asia: Salon Spectacular 2016 at the World Trade Centre, Pasay City, Metro Manila. These young hairstylists are children-beneficiaries of ACTION’s Hasami no Chikara (Power of Scissors) project which offers free training in hairstyling to children in partner residential care facilities and partner communities of ACTION.
The Hair Asia-Salon Spectacular ’16 features presentations from renowned artists in make-up and hair design. There are also bazaars and a competition for professional stylists. There are 3 different categories of competition: (1) hair and make-up for women, (2) hair style/ hair-cut for men and hair, make-up and gown.
The children watched the competition and shared positive insights about the designs. They also learned new techniques in haircut and make-up as well as restrictions when joining similar competitions. But more than anything, the event inspired them to continue their training in hairstyling. Some of them are already aspiring to participate in a Hair Asia event someday.
