Creating Impact on Children’s Lives thru Life Skills Enhancement

A Child’s Trust Is Ours to Nurture-ACTION, Inc. continues to create impact on children’s lives through its two on-going projects that aim to develop life skills among children. These are the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funded Ensuring Children’s Potential for Development and Independence through Improved Residential Care Practices-Project and the Japan International Cooperation System (JICS) funded Psychosocial Intervention for Chikara Beneficiaries-Project.

And to ensure that the projects deliver its promises, the project teams have undergone a Skills for Life (SFL) Facilitator’s Training to enable them in facilitating developmental activities for children. The training was conducted on August 29-31, 2017 at People’s Recovery Empowerment Development Assistance (PREDA) Foundation Head Office, Upper Kalaklan, Olongapo City. The training was actively participated by twelve (3 male, 9 female) ACTION staff and  nine (5 male, 4 female) PREDA Foundation staff.

The 3 day training was filled with sharing of experiences in handling children, personal experiences in life, simulation of interview and counselling, discussion and sharing of insights on the present situation of children and youth of this generation, handling difficult children participants and learning new teaching strategies on how to effectively implement the Skills for Life Training.

As shared by the participants, the training equipped them of skills on how to effectively implement SFL modules. They were able to understand that the approach in life skills training is different from the usual classroom type discussion.

To ensure that the implementation of Skills for Life Training is according to standard, Ms. Dizon, the trainer, shall be providing technical assistance during the roll out of the Training.

The training was realized in partnership with 2 other organizations working for the welfare of children, PREDA and Consuelo Alger Foundation. PREDA provided for the accommodation of the trainers and meals for the trainers and participants during the training.  While Consuelo Alger Foundation provided free copies of the Skills for Life Facilitator’s Kit and other training materials. It also provided ACTION the link to the accredited trainer of SFL, Ms. Eileen Dizon.
