ACTION’s scholars get ready for the new School Year: 2018-2019

In preparation for the new school year, ACTION organized a Scholarship Program Orientation for its long time scholars. The activity was held on May 18, 2018 at ACTION Chikara Project Studio, Olongapo City and it was attended by eight (8) out of ten (10) scholars together with their parents and guardians.

The Educational Assistance is one of the projects under ACTION’s Chikara Livelihood Program and it is funded by the Growing People’s Will (GPW) since 2010. Nine (9) scholars were under the support of the GPW while the other one (1) scholar was supported by the former student campers from Japan, Mr. Bumpei Jitosho, Ms. Ai Yoshida and Ms. Kayo Takita, since 2012.

ORIENTATION 1Through the half day orientation, the participants were reminded of the inclusions of the scholarship grant: tuition fees, school supplies, transportation allowance and other fees for school projects and school-related activities. Moreover, they were also reoriented about the responsibilities of the scholars and parents/guardians to achieve the objective of the project.

During the orientation, the ACTION staff discussed the life skills activities which may be conducted to the scholars to help in their personal development. Some of the identified modules to be used in the sessions were the Life Skills Intervention of ACTION and the Adolescent Reproductive Health of the Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation.

The scholars received their respective school supplies. Afterwards, together with the ACTION staff, they purchased school uniforms and shoes.

Aristotle once said, “The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.” Although the years to come may be challenging for the scholars, ACTION will always try to extend its support to help these children achieve their sweet success. Good luck to all the scholars!
